Why Regular Cleaning Matters

Countertop ice makers cycle water through metal components continuously. Every fill of tap water deposits trace amounts of calcium, magnesium, and other minerals onto the freezing rods and reservoir walls. Over time, this mineral scale reduces the machine's efficiency, slows ice production, and creates off-tasting ice.

Beyond performance, cleaning is a hygiene issue. The dark, moist environment inside an ice maker is hospitable to mold and bacteria if left uncleaned. Regular cleaning keeps your ice safe and fresh-tasting.

How Often Should You Clean Your EUHOMY?

Running the Self-Clean Cycle (Routine Cleaning)

What you need: Clean water, 5–10 minutes of active time.

Step 1: Empty the ice basket and discard any remaining ice.

Step 2: Empty the water reservoir completely by opening the drain plug on the bottom of the machine or pressing and holding the water drain button.

Step 3: Refill the reservoir with clean, fresh water to the MAX line.

Step 4: Press and hold the CLEAN button (refer to your model's manual for exact button location — typically 3–5 seconds). The machine will display a cleaning indicator.

Step 5: Allow the cycle to complete — approximately 20–30 minutes. The machine circulates water through all components.

Step 6: After the cycle completes, drain the cleaning water, refill with fresh water, and run 1–2 normal ice cycles to rinse. Discard this first ice batch.

Deep Clean with Citric Acid (Monthly)

What you need: Citric acid powder (food-grade), clean water, soft cloth, 45–60 minutes.

Step 1: Empty ice basket and drain all water from the reservoir.

Step 2: Mix 1–2 tablespoons of citric acid powder in the full reservoir of water until dissolved.

Step 3: Run the self-cleaning cycle with the citric acid solution. The acid dissolves mineral deposits on the freezing rods and internal surfaces.

Step 4: After the cycle, drain completely. Wipe the reservoir walls with a soft cloth dipped in the citric acid solution to remove any visible scale deposits.

Step 5: Rinse by filling with fresh water and running another clean cycle (or 2–3 normal ice cycles). Discard all ice produced during rinse cycles.

Step 6: Wipe the ice basket, scoop, and interior walls with a damp cloth. Allow to air dry with the lid open before resuming normal operation.

Cleaning the Exterior

The exterior of the EUHOMY should be wiped down weekly during regular use. Use a damp cloth — no abrasive cleaners, no bleach, no submerging the machine.

Pay particular attention to the lid seal, the control panel area (wipe gently with a barely damp cloth — avoid getting water in the buttons), and the ventilation grille on the back and sides. A clean ventilation grille improves airflow and compressor efficiency.

Cleaning Before Storage

If you're storing the machine for more than a week, thorough cleaning before storage is essential. Storing a machine with water or ice residue inside creates conditions for mold, mildew, and mineral deposits that are very difficult to remove.

Pre-storage protocol: Run a full citric acid deep clean → drain completely → wipe all interior surfaces dry with a cloth → leave the lid propped slightly open during storage to allow air circulation → store upright in a cool, dry location.
